MOSH-MOAH analysis is concerned with the detection and quantification of mineral oil hydrocarbons in food, packaging and other everyday products. The term MOSH stands for Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons, MOAH for Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons. Both groups of substances typically originate from mineral oil-based raw materials and are considered potentially hazardous to health.

MOSH-MOAH residues can get into food in a variety of ways - for example through:

• Migration from recycled paper packaging
• Lubricants from production facilities
• Environmental or transportation contaminants
• Additives and additives in food processing

The determination of MOSH and MOAH places high demands on the analysis, as these are complex mixtures that occur in low concentrations in difficult matrices. ISERA offers various products, some of which are exclusive, specifically for this type of analysis. These include AlOx (aluminum oxide) columns for targeted purification and fractionation of the sample.

Headspace fine-thread bottles are used for the automated MOSH-MOAH analysis process. They are sealed using magnetic screw caps with Viton septa, which are characterized by their high chemical resistance. The septa must be thoroughly cleaned using validated procedures in order to rule out any influence on the analysis due to migratory residues. Depending on the analytical question, ISERA provides various closure variants optimized for MOSH-MOAH analysis.

A special silanization process chemically modifies the glass surfaces - for reduced adsorption, improved sample stability and maximum recovery rates even with sensitive or low-concentration analytes. Our vials are ideal for applications in (U)HPLC, bioanalysis or trace analysis - especially for samples containing proteins or peptides.
